Approaching a junction

Observe, slow down and identify the order of passage before crossing.

Objective

Approach junctions with time to observe and identify who has priority.

Practical examples

  • Where no signs change the rule, give way to traffic from the right at a junction.
  • Do not enter a junction unless you can clear it; also watch for users already in it.

Key points

  1. Approach at a speed that lets you observe and react.
  2. Check signs, traffic lights and road users already in the junction.
  3. Never assume you have priority: follow signs and the applicable rules.
