Road signs and essential rules

Practical examples

Road signs help everyone drive predictably and safely. First observe the sign, then adapt your speed and behaviour.

Warning signs alert you; regulatory signs impose a prohibition or instruction; priority signs regulate passage. Information signs help you find your way.

• A warning triangle for a bend? Slow down before the bend, not while turning.
• A blue circle with a forward arrow? You must go straight ahead.
• A STOP sign? Stop at the stop line, look and give way.
